Monday we had a social studies test. Mr. Schrader read us a book called Giant John. We played lifesaver in gym, and we learned about jazz artists in music. Our mystery reader last week was Mr. Shaw. He gave us clues like: I go to 15 Royals games a year.
Tuesday, Dr. Gray came and showed us a movie called Ugly Duckling. Today, we also had library and computer. Then we learned more about multiplication of whole numbers and decimals.
Wednesday: We had computer, Pick 5, and Mr. Schrader sang the song, "If You're Happy and You Know It, Go to PE and Music."
On Thursday Ms. Gonzales did Rise n' Shine with us. We played a spelling game. Taylor's mom came and made copies. We reviewed our sticky notes in our books.
Friday: We came and watched CNN news. Next, we had StudyCasts. We will be released at 12:15. Like Carl Azus always says, "Fridays are awesome!"
1. To be perfectly honest, I was not much of a reader in my school years, although I managed ok grades. I was much more interested in science and math.
2. I recall reading MOST of Z for Zachariah by Robert C. Obrien, and I also read Beyond Recognition by Ridley Pearson.
3. I'm the youngest of 3 kids -- my wife is also the youngest of 3 kids. Coincidentally, the two of us were class of '94 and both our siblings were class of '88 and '90.
4. Our family's only pet is a betta. However, our 2 year old son is like a very ornery pet most of the time.
5. Our favorite TV show is Friday Night Lights, but I usually get suckered into watching the Bachelor or Bachelorette with my wife. We also enjoy the American Idol - the tryouts much more than the competitive portion. We went as far as to see Daughtry live.
6. We are HUGE Royals fans. For the last 6 years we've been to 10-15 games per year.
We were very glad to have Lexi's dad, Justin, join us for the end of our day and read to us. He read a chapter in our read aloud book, answered some questions, and watched as we ended our day. We were very glad to have him stay around!
On Monday in music we did Quiz, Quiz, Trade and in P.E. we played Championship Dodgeball. The winner was Mackenzie. We had try-outs for the Geography Team and the people who made the beginning team were Taylor, Nick, and Dylan. Congrats! For WAGS we have three books: Savvy, Swindle, and Masterpiece. In Mr. Schrader's group in Pick 5, we found out we get pen pals.
On Tuesday we watched CNN student news and went to music and P.E. In P.E. we played the island game and had eye exams. Then we came in and had snack while we read. Then we did Pick 5 and found out who our pen pals are. Then we had lunch and recess. Next, we did math and seminar time. After that we went home.
On Wednesday Ms. Gonzales was here and we played Sparkle and winners were Nic, Kennedy, and Sammi. Congrats! Michael, Kody, Jace, Sammi, and Jillian have finished their Literature Circles books of Loser. Then we went to lunch and recess. Ms. Meyer came in for Social Studies. Then we did math and science which ended our day.
We have our first science test this Friday! But, before you panic, cool down a bit. I have put up some study materials to help you out. Under the students section, there is a link on the right to a page for our science unit - Ch. 12 Properties of Structure and Matter. There, I have put a lesson summary, the definitions for our vocabulary, a study guide, and a StudyCast where I walk through the solutions to the study guide. This, along with our classroom discussions, notes packets, experimentation, and review should be sitting the students just fine for our test on Friday.
1. When I was in 5th grade, I enjoyed reading books about heroines from World War II, such as Anne Frank and Corrie Ten Boom.
2. I love love love the ocean.
3. By the time I was in 5th grade, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.
4. My family has a dog, a cat, a hamster and a horse as pets.
5. I like to run marathons.
We are really excited to have our second Mystery Reader of the year join us. Our class was really excited about her clues, and they had a lot of great questions to ask her when she got here! Mrs. Moylan was a great sport at fielding their questions which ranged from talking about her choice of books to what she would do with a million dollars!
