Rubric
Our videos are evaluated on a rubric with eight categories, including presenting key information and vocabulary. The videos have a length requirement, and they must have an introduction followed by a title slide. They are also evaluated on how they have used the writing process for their script as well as how they used graphic organizers.

Common Craft Video Project

Introduction

This project is inspired by the company Common Craft, which explains technology topics using a clear technique. Common Craft Videos are short, simple videos to designed to explain a topic in simple terms. These videos are relatively low-tech. It requires some planning, a video camera, and group cooperation.

Planning

Our video project is created in several steps. Students are assigned small groups, each with a lesson they are responsible for. After reading the lesson and noting key information, students work together to write a script for their video following the writing process. Once they have a rough draft with an introduction, key information, and a closing, they can revise and edit and then create a final draft that is typed.
Once the script is complete, students begin creating the illustrations for their video, going through their script piece by piece. When the groups have created all of their illustrations and rehearsed their video, they may then produce it on camera.
